A Mitzvah Mall is a shopping alternative to the usual holiday gift buying. It provides a convenient opportunity for individuals to make donations to various charities. In exchange, the donor receives a gift card, which he or she can present to a recipient who will see that a specific tangible donation has been made with them in mind.

Our cards are made from recycled paper and contain messages of “Happy Chanukah”, “Happy Holidays”, and “Just For You”.  The “Just For You” card can be sent any time of the year when you want to acknowledge a special occasion or good deed.  To see what the cards and inserts look like click here.

The Mitzvah Mall is now open ALL YEAR ROUND for your shopping pleasure!  A committee member will be at the Temple during Religious School on Sundays, November 4th, 18th, December 2nd, 9th, and 16th for sales and pickup, and Wednesdays during Religious School from November 28th through December only.  Cards may be purchased any time during the year by contacting Beth Lemler, or click on the order form below and mail it to her.

The Mitzvah Mall is Social Action’s annual fundraiser for five non-profit organizations.  Since Social Action will cover the cost of the program, 100% of your donation goes directly to the organization. This year we will be working with:

  • Community Soup Kitchen, Morristown, which provides hot lunches including soup, salad, entrée, desert, and beverages 365 days a year for anyone who needs to come.

  • Stem Cell Institute of New Jersey , located in New Brunswick, New Jersey, supports research seeking cures for a multitude of illnesses through stem cell therapy, (i.e. Cancer, Parkinson's, ALS, spinal cord injuries, Diabetes etc).

  • Jersey Battered Women’s Service  promotes public awareness in recognizing abuse and provides assistance and services to women and families facing domestic violence and abuse.

  • JESPY House is a non-sectarian, social service organization under the auspices of United Jewish Communities of Metro West, serving adults with learning and developmental disabilities.  Through social workers, therapists, teachers, job coaches, counseling, it enables them to reach their full potential and lead independent lives.

  • Temple Shalom Reads is a grassroots organization of volunteers from our Temple who are assisting in literacy programs at schools in Northwest New Jersey. Our goal is to provide an additional learning environment to students in need of more time to master their grade level reading. We are working in conjunction with the school teachers and curriculum developers in this endeavor. Reading materials and other items for the children will be purchased with your contribution.

To participate in this worthwhile program, donate a minimum of $2 - $100 for any tangible item or service to any of the organizations listed on the  “Mitzvah Mall Order Form”.  For each donation made you will receive an attractive card to send a relative or friend.

Note that Temple Shalom Reads welcomes all donations in any amount and therefore specific options are not listed for it on the order form.  Just fill out the bottom of the form with your name and address and choice of cards, and indicate that your contribution is for Temple Shalom Reads.
