Cory Sue Hermann

Cory Hermann has been a part of Temple Shalom since 2003.  She serves as the Director of Congregational Learning, overseeing all formal and informal Jewish Education programs serving youth from PreK through Grade 12.
Cory received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Delaware and her Master of Social Work degree from Adelphi University.  She became a certified social worker in New York in 1997.
Cory has worked in Jewish Education for almost 20 years.  She worked as the first fulltime Youth Director at North Shore Synagogue in Syosset, New York, serving over 250 youth grades 5-12.  After receiving her MSW, she began her work as the Director of Youth and Family Programming at North Shore Synagogue.  In this capacity, she worked with the preschool, religious school, and high school, and created a vibrant family program at the synagogue in Syosset.

In 1999, Cory became the Director of Education at Temple Beth El of Huntington, in New York.  She served in this capacity until coming to Temple Shalom in 2003.

Cory has been a member of the National Association of Temple Educators (NATE) for 10 years, and was a participant of the first cohort of the Leadership Institute for Congregational School Principals, a joint venture of the Jewish Theological Seminary and Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, funded by UJA Federation of NY.  She is committed to professional development and to providing our families with a warm, supportive community and positive and meaningful Jewish experiences.

Cory and her husband, Barak, grew up in the Reform movement, were NFTY Regional Board members and are committed to Reform Jewish camping.  Cory serves on the faculty of URJ Crane Lake Camp for 2 weeks each summer.  Cory and Barak live in Randolph with their three boys, Jacob, Zachary and Jonah.
