Curriculum for primary grades Pre-K through two includes holidays, values, an introduction to Jewish heritage, music and crafts. Grades three through seven study Jewish values, history, community, Bible ethics, Israel and Hebrew language.
The High School program for eighth, ninth and tenth grade students includes courses on the Holocaust, Prophets, Comparative Religion, History, Israel and Spirituality and culminates in Confirmation. In addition, there are mini courses on current Jewish and secular topics of interest, as well as student requested topics. Parents are often invited to participate in these sessions.
There are also creative, experiential programs and assemblies for children in all grades.
Children, above grade level three, entering religious school for the first time must fulfill certain make-up requirements which are coordinated through the office of the Educational Director. Further information, course descriptions and the school calendar are available from the religious school.
Bar/Bat Mitzvah and Confirmation
Students who have successfully completed our full Hebrew and Religious School program, beginning at the latest in grade three or its equivalent, are eligible for Bar/Bat Mitzvah. In preparation for the ceremony, the student will receive training from the Rabbi and the Cantor. For further information on Bar/Bat Mitzvah requirements and fees, please consult the Bar/Bat Mitzvah Handbook, the Rabbi or Ritual Chairperson.
Our formal course of study culminates in the ceremony of Confirmation. The celebration of a Bar/Bat Mitzvah is seen as a milestone on the way to confirmation. All students are encouraged to continue their studies through confirmation.
To participate in the Confirmation service, which is prepared by the students under the guidance of the Rabbi, students must successfully complete the curriculum in grades eight, nine and ten and attend the tenth grade retreat.
